For Health Care Providers

Why should you talk with your patients about physical activity?

Whether you are a physician, primary care nurse, nurse practitioner, physiotherapist, registered dietitian, kinesiologist or other allied health professional, as a health care provider, you have influence and opportunity to promote physical activity. Start by asking a question. People are more likely to change their behaviour when health care providers discuss the importance of physical activity with them.

If a sedentary person increases their physical activity by 8 minutes
a day (56 minutes per week), their risk of death is reduced by 9%.
